In 2017, WWF NL spearheaded the Bending the Curve initiative, rallying over 10 modelling groups specialising in integrated assessment and biodiversity models to conduct a global analysis of ambitious biodiversity scenarios.

Published in the journal Nature in 2020, the study’s findings gained significant traction, featuring in the Living Planet Report 2020 and the Global Biodiversity Outlook. This ‘bending the curve’ narrative quickly captured global attention, driving a shift in policy discourse from merely ‘halting biodiversity loss’ to actively ‘bending the curve of biodiversity decline.’
