The Amazon region network

Project description

Bringing the Bending the Curve initiative to a regional level, the Amazon Region Network is set to co-create regionally-grounded scenario narratives and models. These efforts aim to uncover the best strategies, policies, and pathways to reverse the Amazon’s biodiversity loss. Building on numerous regional projects and initiatives, the Network collaborates closely with the Science Panel for the Amazon (check out our network members section for the full list).

The Amazon Region Network will stress test policy recommendations from the Science Panel for the Amazon, by developing and modelling scenarios to assess their potential to bend the curve of biodiversity loss. Among others, these might include the critical role of protected areas and Indigenous territories, the transformative power of large-scale reforestation of forest and freshwater ecosystems, or the realisation of a healthy sociobioeconomy of standing forests and flowing rivers. The complete details and approaches will be agreed upon during the first in-person workshop, promising a dynamic start to this exciting endeavour.
